Mesquite Fireplace Mantels
First, the mantle is cut to the length, depth, and thickness needed on a large bandsaw. The backside is cut square, as are the ends. The front is abrasively shaped, leaving no bark, or sapwood. (This eliminates the chances of wood borers and powder post beetles.) You must furnish your own method of bracketing, keeping in mind that Mesquite is very heavy. For the larger mantles, it's best to have two or three 2" heavy walled pipes set into the brick, where the mantle will go. Then matching holes can be drilled into the mantle, and the mantle then slid over the pipes. It can then be secured with small angle brackets, or anything to keep it from sliding off, should there be that chance. The larger mantles must be picked up at Robert's shop in Uvalde, Texas, 78801. Smaller ones may be able to be shipped VIA UPS. Send the length, depth, and thickness you need, for a quotation. If in Texas, State taxes apply. |
